Sharing Canvases

Sharing lets you send a canvas to another person with a link. They can open the link, preview the canvas, and import their own editable copy into Canvases.

Before You Share

Take a quick look at the canvas before creating the link:

  • Remove any personal text, images, or values you do not want to share.
  • Check that the main content is readable in the selected widget size.
  • If the canvas depends on Shortcuts, include the shortcut link or explain what the other person needs to set up.

  1. Open the canvas you want to share.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Review the canvas name and preview.
  4. Tap Create Link.
  5. Send the link with Messages, Mail, AirDrop, or another app.

Anyone with the link can view the shared canvas. Only share canvases that you are comfortable sending to other people.

Some canvases are more useful when they come with a shortcut. For example, a coffee tracker might include a shortcut that updates the count, and a weather widget might include a shortcut that refreshes the latest forecast.

To include a shortcut:

  1. Share the shortcut from the Shortcuts app.
  2. Copy its iCloud link.
  3. Return to Canvases.
  4. Tap Add Shortcut in the Share Canvas sheet.
  5. Paste the iCloud link before creating the canvas link.

The shortcut link is optional. If the canvas does not need one, you can leave it out.

When someone imports the canvas, Canvases asks whether they also want to add the associated shortcut.

Import a Canvas

When you open a shared canvas link, Canvases shows the canvas before you import it. You can see the name, the shared date, and a preview.

When you import it, Canvases creates a separate copy on your device. The copy is not connected to the original, so any changes the other person makes later do not affect your canvas.

If the shared canvas includes a shortcut link, Canvases prompts you to import that shortcut after you import the canvas.
